SharePoint 2013 support for Windows Server 2012 R2

UPDATE (14 March 2014) – As a few of you have pointed out, Service Pack 1 for Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 is now available.

Wanted to share a surprise impediment from earlier this week.

Actually, I should have known better than to try and install the latest greatest ALM tools (TFS 2013), alongside the latest greatest SharePoint (2013), on top of the latest greatest Windows Server (W2012R2). The resulting odd behaviors were confirmed first by fellow MVP and Scrum trainer Neno Loje, and then by KB2891274 that he shared with me.

The answer is to wait for SharePoint 2013 SP1 …

“SharePoint Server 2013 with Service Pack 1 and SharePoint Foundation 2013 with Service Pack 1 will offer support for Windows Server 2012 R2. The release date for Service Pack 1 for SharePoint Server 2013 and SharePoint Foundation 2013 is to be determined. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.”

Until SP1 comes comes out, fellow MVP Wes MacDonald tells me that

SharePoint 2010 w/SP2 will work on Windows Server 2012, even though there are some workarounds that need to be performed.
